July 5. The Icefields Parkway in Banff and Jasper National Park !

The "B-J" ("Banff-Jasper") road was built as a gravel road using mostly picks, shovels and horses as well as a few small tractors starting back in 1931. It took nine years to be built, and was paved in 1961. The scenery is breathtaking with 230 km Highway driving through the famous snow covered Canadian Rockies. The Highway's today's name "the Icefields Parkway" (HWY 93 from Lake Louise to Jasper) gives credit to seven icefields and 25 glaciers. The center piece is the Columbia Icefield, largest in the Rockies with an area of 200 km2.
From the ranch, it is a lovely 1 1/2 hour drive West to HWY 93. The drive is on scenic David Thompson Highway # 11 with view of the first mountain ranges, lakes and rivers.
