Feb. 28. Longhorns & horses !
Kiowa sniffs on Nscho-Tschi's horn at the stock waterer. Our horses and Longhorns know each other well and know their body language. Often the Longhorns would shake their heads a bit and their horns would swing from side to side to let the horses know, that they want to drink water now. If it is important to the horse, they can chase the cow away though. We keep them on separate pastures, because of the feeding in winter and then in summer so we can get the horses easily into the corrals to be ready for riding. But they would get along fine on a big enough pasture, we always have the young horses with the Longhorns in summer for a while. That way they develop their cow sense more and will know what to do once they are ridden and should pen the cattle. Older, experienced Longhorns are bossier that young horses though. Fence to fence we sometimes see a Longhorn lick a horse's face, nice massage.
